This region consists of 9 display blocks, in three rows. Each block is independent of the others and the layout automatically adjusts to the number of visible blocks.  If a row has three visible blocks, each takes one third of the space, if it only has two visible blocks, each is one half the space.

Your site may use none, or only one of these blocks, throughout the site, but in some circumstances, it might work to use all 9 blocks on the home page with a mini banner pointing to major sections of your site.
