Alerts are meant to be used for urgent news messages, such as your business closing for the day due to inclement weather. When you publish an Alert, a banner headline will appear at the top of some or all of your pages with the "Headline" that you enter. If the visitor clicks on the headline, they will be taken to the full article that you posted for details.

Only the most recent Alert shows in the banner, so make sure that if it is something that you want people to read about later, that you either also post it in a news article or don't post another alert until the current one is no longer needed.

Optional Features

If your site has Content Scheduling, it is a good idea to Schedule the Alert to be unpublished at an appropriate time.

If your site has Content Subscriptions, users can subscribe to receive an email when an Alert is posted. It is also possible, when legal, to force users to be subscribed to Alerts.
